MANADO, mejahijau.com – Pemerintah Kota (Pemkot) Manado melalui dinas komunikasi da informatika (Kominfo) terus berupaya meminimalisir volume sampah plastik sebagai langkah mengatasi dampak buruk bagi lingkungan dan kelangsungan hidup generasi penerus.
Selain memakan waktu sangat panjang untuk menguraikannya, sampah plastik juga berbahaya jika dijadikan sebagai alternatif atau pengganti bahan bakar dan kebutuhan lainnya.
Demikian disampaikan kepala dinas (Kadis) Kominfo Kota Manado Erwin Kontu menyikapi masih banyaknya Aparatur Sipil Negara (ASN) dan warga yang menggunakan bahan plastik sebagai wadah konsumsi air minum.
“Sampah plastik sulit terurai oleh mikroorganisme dalam tanah karena rantai karbonnya yang panjang. Butuh waktu ratusan tahun kemudian baru bisa terurai. Makanya dampak buruk untuk mencemari lingkungan sangat tinggi,” jelas Erwin, Selasa, 10 Maret 2020.
Dampak buruk lainnya dari sampah plastik dapat mempengaruhi perubahan iklim. Erwin menjelaskan, bahan yang terbuat dari plastik dapat menghasilkan emisi karbon yang tinggi sehingga berkontribusi terhadap kondisi bumi yang saat ini semakin memanas.
Sedangkan kontribusi negatif sampah plastik lainnya kata walikotai, yakni dampak terhadap lingkungan, karena merupakan barang sekali pakai dan terkadang dibuang secara serampangan.
“Sampah yang tidak dipertanggungjawabkan kemudian dibuang sembarangan dapat menyumbat selokan air dan berimbas banjir. Kalau pun terbawa aliran sungai maka imbasnya akan merusak ekosistem, baik di sungai maupun laut,” katanya mengingatkan.
Fenomena sampah platik imbuh bupati, kurang disadari masyarakat, sehingga perlu dikampanyekan atau disosialisasikan berulang – ulang, baik dalam pertemuan interen maupun terbuka.
“Satu sampah yang dibuang di tempatnya akan menyelamatkan daerah kita. Sebaliknya satu sampah yang dibuang sembarangan dapat menimbulkan seribu satu bencana,” pungkas Kontu.(adve/indra)
